Considering Breast Reduction Surgery in San Diego? Here’s How It Works
Your surgeon will perform your outpatient breast reduction surgery while you are under general anesthesia in our QUAD A-accredited on-site surgical suite. They typically make the incisions around the nipple-areolar complex (the pigmented area) and extend them vertically below the nipple and along the fold under the breast.
Your surgeon will then move the nipple-areolar complex upward to your desired location and remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin. They will suture and dress your incisions, and you’ll be moved to a private, comfortable recovery room to rest until you’re ready to go home.

Most people enjoy a reasonable and uneventful recovery. While you’ll have to rest at home for the first few days, you’ll be able to get up and walk around the next day after surgery. If you have a desk job, you may be able to return to work within a week or so.
You’ll have to take about a month off from your exercise routine. Heavier lifting and chest exercises will have to wait a little longer. However, you should be back to most daily activities within 2 weeks. Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions for your recovery.
Will I Need to Wear a Special Bra After My Breast Reduction?
For the first 4 to 6 weeks, you’ll need to wear a high-quality sports bra or other very supportive, non-underwire bra while you heal. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on when it’s okay to wear everyday bras.
What Results Can I Expect After My Breast Reduction?
Your new breast shape will continue to improve during the first 6 months or more after your surgery. Although scars are present, they are easily hidden by clothing and will fade nicely with proper care.
